Vulcanul Solfatara, Italia

In apropierea orasului Napoli se afla Vulcanul Solfatara, un vulcan inactiv care emana gaze bogate in sulf si bioxid de carbon, folosite in scopuri medicale inca de pe vremea romanilor.

Numele sau vine din latina, ‘terra sulfonamidice’, si inseamna ‘pamant de sulf’. Ultima oara a erupt in anul 1198, cand apele subterane ale vulcanului au interactionat cu magma producand o explozie freatica.
Versantii sai sunt abrupti si ingalbeniti de cristalele de sulf. Craterul este astazi un punct de atractie turistica foarte cautat, fiind spectaculos atat datorita numeroaselor pesteri insirate pe peretii craterului, a piscinelor de noroi fierbinte si a gazelor emanate de pamant, cat si a senzatiei pe care ti-l ofera spectacolul dat de acest pamant sulfuros.
